Denzel Washington – Now that Fences has officially hit the masses, a lot more people are talking about Denzel possibly stealing the Best Actor Oscar away from Casey Affleck. Not only was his performance incredible on-screen, but so was his vision behind the camera in the director’s chair. For my money, this was Denzel’s best role yet.
Casey Affleck – Having been the Oscar favorite for quite some time now, Casey is nestled comfortably in this spot. Manchester by the Sea is still reaching new viewers every day, but several people in the Academy may already know he is still their guy.
Andrew Garfield – the leading man in Hacksaw Ridge, Garfield is already a star, but his performance in that, along with Silence, could propel him into the next tier of great actors.
Matthew McConaughey – McConaughey had a nice 2016 with voiceover roles in Kubo and the Two Strings and Sing, which is in theaters now. In addition, he also had excellent performances on-screen in Free State of Jones and his new film, Gold, which is set to hit theaters nationwide at the end of this month. However, privy viewers who have already seen the film are praising his performance. The current box office success of Sing and the early buzz on Gold land him on this list.
Chris Pratt – Pratt is the new mayor of blockbuster city. Everything he stars in seems to make nine figures at the box office. Passengers is no different and should reach $100 million soon.
